My unaesthetic travel essentials that I never forget to pack

You see the linen dresses, coordinated outfits, and dreamy hotel photos. What most of you (and us) don't see is the motion sickness pills, Band-Aids, mouth spray, intimate wipes, and cuticle oil pens that are quietly doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes.

As much as I love a beautiful suitcase flat lay, the truth is that the least glamorous items I pack are often the ones that save the trip. These are the unsung heroes that keep me comfortable, prepared, and functioning, whether I'm on a long-haul flight, spending a day at the beach, or wandering a city until my hotel room is finally ready.

Here are the unaesthetic travel essentials that never make it onto Instagram, but always make it into my bag.

1. A mess-free sunstick with SPF 50

The easiest way to reapply SPF on the go, no matter where you're at, is with a sunstick. Reapplying sunscreen is only useful if you'll actually do it, and sometimes I find myself skipping it because it feels like ‘too much hassle.’

A sunstick means no spills, no sticky hands, and no carrying around a full bottle of sunscreen.

2. Motion sickness pills (i.e. a permanent resident in every bag I own)

If you get motion sickness easily, you’ll understand why I can leave the pain killers behind but never the Dramamine.

3. Blister Cushion Bandage

No matter how comfortable a pair of shoes feels at home, travel has a way of revealing their true colors.

Long walking days, unexpected rain, or a little too much sightseeing can quickly turn into blister territory. A few Band-Aids take up virtually no space and have rescued more vacations than I'd like to admit.

4. The Intimate Wipes

This wipe is perfect for planes, beaches, post-gym, and period days when you need a quick refresh. I also love the light, soothing scent.

5. The Bug Balm

This bug balm is an amazing product! It’s a moisturizer but it also repels insects! It’s also so easy to pack, and effortless to apply. I use it on my son too, when we’re somewhere with lots of mosquitoes!

6. The Immune Support Throat Spray

I already use this every day at home, so it only makes sense to bring it with me when I travel. But honestly, this was the only thing that helped soothe my coughs whenever I catch a cold, too.

I actually bought a kids’ version for my son, too.

7. Disposable self-heating eye masks

I buy these in bulk because I get dry eyes, especially when I fly or when I sleep in air-conditioned or heated rooms. These make a huge difference for me and usually help me sleep better, too.

8. Preservative-free eye drops

This is another dry eye essential for me. And I specifically use eye drops without preservatives because they are a better option for those with sensitive eyes, wear contact lens, and use eye drops multiple times a day.

9. Cuticle oil

This little pen travels everywhere with me because the roller-ball applicator is completely mess-free. No oily fingers, no leaking bottles, and no greasy residue all over my toiletry bag. Just a quick swipe and my cuticles immediately look and feel better.

10. This “glue” for clothing

Sometimes my outfits need this little helper to keep straps, necklines, and wrap dresses exactly where they're supposed to be. It takes up zero space and saves me from countless wardrobe malfunctions.

Cute outfits get the photos but these things save the vacation. The older I get, the more I appreciate practical little comforts over perfectly curated packing lists. Because while matching sets are lovely, being prepared enough to enjoy the trip without discomfort is even better!
