3 convertible bags that actually work for toddler mom life, and beyond

When I became a mom, I realized very quickly that the bag I carried mattered more than I expected. It wasn’t just about style; it had to really be functional. I needed something hands-free when I’m chasing after my toddler, spacious enough for all the little extras, and easy to move with throughout the day.

Now that I’m past the diaper bag stage, I don’t necessarily need to carry everything anymore but I still need a bag that I can rely on. Something that lets me carry what I need with ease, whether I’m heading out for a quick coffee, a playdate, or running errands in between. At the same time, I didn’t want to switch into something that felt too much like a “mom bag.” I still want it to feel like me, something I’d reach for even when I’m out on my own.

And that’s basically how I developed a love for convertible bags. The kind that adapts with you, that can be a crossbody when you need function, and a shoulder or top-handle when you want to feel a little more put together. Over time, I’ve found a few that truly balance both sides of my life: practical for toddler days, but still something I’d carry well beyond them.

Read on to learn about the three that have earned a permanent spot in my rotation:

1. The Aoyama Nylon Crescent Crossbody Bag by Lo & Sons

This crescent-shaped bag is a 3-in-1: a crossbody, shoulder, and clutch. Made of PFAS-free recycled nylon, it is water-resistant and so lightweight. The modular strap has easy buckles that makes the converting so stress-free.

It’s spacious with lots of compartments inside, but my favorite detail is the side zipper pocket that gives you easy access to your phone. I also really like that it includes a key leash because sometimes I only have one free hand to look for my keys.

When I’m off to dinner or need to elevate my look, I remove the shoulder strap completely to give myself a sleek evening bag.

The simple modular strap design makes it so easy to convert the crossbody into a shoulder bag. And the side pocket is one of my favorite details!

2. The Clio Slouchy Smooth Leather Bag by Fabrique

The Clio is designed with an intentional slouch, featuring a softer look, and a more fluid silhouette. It has a relaxed shape which gives off that effortless vibe I adore. The craftsmanship on this handbag is amazing, and you can really feel the quality.

You can carry this bag by hand or attach the adjustable strap to turn it into a shoulder bag, or a crossbody.

It’s pretty lightweight considering it’s made of leather, but it is spacious and can hold a lot.

3. The Brera Convertible Tote Bag by Fabrique

This tote bag is a transformer — it can convert into multiple looks! Flip it inside out and show off the soft suede, or clip the 2 ends to change up the shape of the bag.

It fits my laptop so this is often the one I use when I’m meeting my clients or just when I have to carry more things. It also is a great travel tote because you can style it with different outfits throughout the trip, too.

Not all convertible handbags are designed well but these 3 are very well-made and actually functional.

But I’m curious, what are your thoughts on convertible handbags? Are they better off designed to stay one way?

As always, thank you for stopping by Happily Ever Style.
