4 picture-perfect spots to visit in Palm Springs and Joshua Tree

In June, after attending a wedding in Santa Monica, CA, my friends and I decided to drive to Palm Springs for a few days before heading back to New York City. We didn’t realize it was actually the beginning of Palm Springs’ “low season” since it was getting too hot out there, but despite it being so, we still really enjoyed our time there. In fact, because it wasn’t as crowded and busy, my friends and I were able to get amazing photos!

If you’re planning a trip out west and are looking for photoshoot locations, scroll down to find 4 of my favorites from our trip!

Palm Springs Andreas Canyon

1. The Andreas Canyon in Palm Springs

Because I’m pregnant, we didn’t actually hike the trail at the Andreas Canyon. But even without the hike, we were able to find amazing spots that felt like we were in the middle of a palm tree jungle! It really was such a place to be — I’ve never been anywhere like this before!

Joshua Tree National Park

2. Cholla Cactus Garden at Joshua Tree National Park

We woke up at 4am to get to Joshua Tree National Park that day in time for the sunrise. It wasn’t easy waking up but once we got to Cholla Cactus Garnen — we were so glad we made it because the experience was simply amazing.

If you’re not a morning person, going during sunset would be a great idea, too!

Just be careful of the cacti because I was swinging my bag and in a split second, my bag caught one that took us so long to remove.

Skull Rock at Joshua Tree National Park

3. Skull Rock at Joshua Tree National Park

About a 20-minute drive away, also inside the Joshua Tree National Park, is where you’ll find Skull Rock. It’s called Skull Rock because there is a huge skull-like shaped desert granite rock formation with 2 holes that look like eye sockets!

This landscape was so, so different from Cholla Garden, despite it being in the same park. So with a quick change in the car, I was able to do another look here that offered a completely different vibe!

Wind turbines in Palm Spring

4. By the wind turbines near Downtown Palm Springs

Just as we were leaving Palm Springs, we came across an opening on the streets near downtown Palm Springs that allowed us to briefly park our car and hop out for a photo or 2!

It’s not everyday you get to see a sea of wind turbines with grand views of mountains in the background, so I actually really liked this photo spot!
