I’m continuing my efforts of honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage this month by shining the spotlight on Asian women-owned businesses. This time, I’m featuring skincare and wellness brands. And in case you missed it, here are 5 slow fashion brands founded by Asian women.
Although I grew up in an Asian household, with my grandmother and my mom constantly telling me of the importance of using sheet masks or massaging my shoulders with a ceramic spoon (because that’s what my grandma uses sometimes instead of an actual gua sha tool), my appreciation for a good skincare routine didn’t actually start until after college. I guess I thought of their reminders more as them nagging at me and the rebellious side of me didn’t value it enough when I was younger. But of course, moms know best!

The recent trending brand on TikTok, Mount Lai is founded by skincare blogger and esthetician Stephanie Zheng. I love using the balm with the gua sha tool but I’ve been using the acupressure spoon the most lately. It’s such an underrated tool in my opinion!
