10 thoughtful gift ideas that couples actually want to receive

I personally don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day, but I do like the concept of celebrating love! On Valentine’s Day last year, my husband and I were on our way to Napa Valley, driving from San Francisco to attend a friend’s wedding that weekend. Little did we know it was going to the last time we were able to travel anywhere before COVID hit.

And perhaps that’s also why this year, we’re feeling a little sentimental. And because the newly-wed never got to go on their honeymoon, we decided to find them a nice anniversary gift. In the process, I noticed many of my finds also make perfect Valentine’s Day gift ideas for couples, married or not! In fact, the hubby and I will be getting ourselves something, too — just because.

Scroll down for 10 of my favorites.

Elegant, minimalist candles

When in doubt, candles are always a good idea. There are a lot of options out there but I particularly love the sets by Aerangis. The brand’s approach to documenting life’s moments through scents is a concept I adore. Every time I light one of their candles, I get reminded to enjoy being in the present.

Both my husband and I are big fans of its minimalist design which makes them perfect for any home, and for both him and her.

Alternatively, you can also consider these candles by Here For the Burn that come with a touch of humor. It may be a great way to put a smile on their faces — and really, that’s the best gift, no?

Reversible leather bracelets

Luxury accessories brand Jeff Wan designs leather goods for both men and women, and the reversible bracelets make great gifts for couples because they are unisex. I think getting a couple with a set of matching bracelets would be quite cute! There are 13 shades to choose from, so deciding on the color would likely be the real challenge.

A cookware set

Made from the same manufacturer as Al-Clad, this 7-piece cookware set by Italic is sold at cost (for $125, instead of $699 by Al-Clad)!

Now I hardly talk about anything kitchen-related because honestly, I never used to cook as much as I do now. But one thing I’ve noticed is that I do enjoy trying new recipes with my husband, so I think gifting a set of cookware to couples who like to cook together may be nice.

And even better, this set features a non-stick ceramic coating that is free of toxic chemicals and environmentally friendly.

Unisex skincare products

One of the very few beauty products that both my husband and I can share is the body serum by Leland Francis, a luxurious clean, non-toxic skincare brand that I discovered in 2020.

The body serum is made of a blend of pure botanicals and not only is it packed with vitamins and antioxidants, but it also has antimicrobial properties, too! I think you can’t go wrong with getting something that promotes love for each other but also self-care to each one of them, too.

A therapeutic weighted blanket

For the snugglers, this eco-conscious and ultra-soft faux fur blanket makes a wonderful gift. It’s made of entirely recycled materials and is machine washable — tell me that isn’t the best combination?

The blanket also comes in various colors, but neutral tones are the safest choice for couples!

A white noise machine

With more of us working from home, having a white noise machine can help with covering up phone call conversations, blocking out other environmental noises, and allow the couple to work better in the same space.

This one from Letsfit also comes with 3 lullabies and an adjustable night light function, which makes it useful for couples with newborns. If your friends are having trouble sleeping, this device also includes a rhythm that helps with that!

Matching bathrobes

Couples who lounge together, stay together. #AmIRight?

This super comfy robe that both my husband and I have is so soft and luxurious. It’s made in Turkey with 100% premium Turkish cotton and comes in several colors. We were introduced to these bathrobes when we stayed with a friend a while ago — and we literally bought ours the same night! I have a pink one and my husband has a grey one.

A DIY beer-making kit

My husband and I received a whisky-making kit as a gift before and it was actually a really fun activity to do together.

We found a beer version recently and thought this would make a good gift to give our friends, too. The kit includes all the equipment and ingredients you need, as well as step-by-step instructions to follow. All they’ll need to prepare is a large brew pot, a strainer, and some reusable swing-top bottles.
