10 fun ways to celebrate Galentine's Day indoors with your BFF

As someone who moved around and lived in a few different cities, I’ve been so fortunate to be able to meet so many amazing people and to become close friends with many of them — but also unfortunate in a way, because I don’t get to see them as frequently as I’d like since everyone is everywhere. With COVID still hanging around, it has become even harder to make these meet-ups happen.

As I’m not much of a Valentine’s Day person, I’ve always dedicated February 14 to celebrating Galentine’s Day with my girlfriends. And I guess knowing I can’t see some of them anytime soon has made me miss everyone even more than usual! So since no dinner parties can happen this year, my friend Krity from @krity_s and I came up with 10 indoor activity ideas to do with your BFF(s).

You’ll find 5 ideas here, and the other 5 on Krity’s blog!

The eyeshadow makeup palette

Krity and I used the same palette by Jill Stuart to create different makeup looks.

Idea #1: Do a makeup challenge!

Playing with color and trying different makeup looks have been one of my favorite creative outlets the past year, and I think incorporating my fellow girlfriends into the equation will make that even more fun!

Share a Pinterest board with the bestie and save some makeup looks to do together, or find a look for each other to try!

Because Krity and I both happen to have the beautiful 15th Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette from Jill Stuart, we decided to challenge each other to create different looks with the same compact.

I actually used the entire eyeshadow palette on my face! With a wetted liner brush, I did a bronze soft eyeliner, used the white shade as a highlighter, and mixed the copper shade with a lip balm to use as a lip color.

Idea #2: Write a “You’re beautiful, because…” letter to one another

How often do we get to tell our friends they’re beautiful? And by beautiful, I’m not just referring to your friend’s thick lashes, soft curly hair, or the perfectly imperfect freckles, but her ability to see a brighter side, her patience, or her willingness to always go that extra mile for her loved ones.

It’s probably awkward to suddenly text your friend and tell her why she’s beautiful — but that shouldn’t stop you from telling her. So why not make Galentine’s Day the reason to do it? It’s the best way to make each other’s day, too! Personally, I think it’s the perfect gift to give your BFF — but I believe you will also find the one you receive to be way more meaningful than you’d ever imagine it to be.

As a wedding gift for one of my best friends, I made a little book of 20 reasons why she’s wonderful and although it didn’t cost much to make, she’s told me several times that it’s one of the most memorable gifts she’s ever received. I told her whenever she’s feeling down or unsure about herself, she can flip open to a random page to read one reason, so it’s as if I’m there to remind her that she’s forever loved.

Idea #3: Throw a virtual karaoke party

I went to an international school in Taiwan for 6 years and in high school, my friends and I would often start our weekends by heading over to a karaoke place right after school (or “KTV” as we call it in Taiwan).

Since moving to the U.K. for college and now living in New York, I’ve barely gotten the opportunity to go sing because one, it’s not as common; and two, they’re a lot more expensive.

Because of COVID, a lot of companies like Voicebox, for instance, now offer virtual karaoke platforms that allow you to sing your heart out with your bestie even when you’re not physically together in the same city or country.

So if you’ve never tried karaoke before, give it a go now!

Maybe just try not to schedule this singing party too late in case your walls are thin and you don’t want to disturb your beloved neighbors.

Idea #4: Book a virtual manicure class

I love doing my nails so this is a no-brainer for me!

If you think your BFF will also enjoy a nice, relaxing at-home mani session, book a virtual manicure class for the both of you! I’ve attended one before and really enjoyed it because I actually got to learn really great tips and tricks from the professional manicurist who led the class.

If you don’t want a “class” and prefer something less formal — or simply want to just do nails together — consider ordering a complete manicure kit that comes with everything you’ll need.

Idea #5: Finish each other’s drawing in real-time

One of my close friends is really into painting and drawing so if you have a bestie like that as well, do a fun co-create session together!

You can draw together in real-time and catch-up all in one go which is a great way to add some entertainment to spice up a regular FaceTime chat. Maybe you can try to recreate dear Bernie Sanders’ iconic mittens, too, in case you need inspiration.

There are several sites that offer collaborative painting and drawing platforms, and here are two you can check out:
