How to repurpose the face wash that didn't work out for you (in 2020)

As a skincare enthusiast who values the first step of the a good routine — double cleansing — I’ve purchased too many face washes that didn’t actually work out for me the way I hoped it would. Although sometimes you can still manage to get a refund for your purchase, and often times I do share it with family and friends who would like to try the products, I started trying out different ways to use various types of cleansers in order to avoid waste.

A while ago, I filmed a short video on TikTok suggesting one of the ways I’ve been repurposing a face wash this year. To my surprise, the video has gotten over 330K+ views and over 300 shares so far.

THE BEST WAY IN 2020: HAND WASH YOUR FACE MASK

For gel cleansers that don’t seem to work for your face, I think they are great to use for hand washing your face masks — this year’s new essential “accessory.”

Because it touches our face, it’s important to keep the masks clean. But also, of course, we want them clean because we hope they’re virus-free, too.

I’ve been washing my mask every time I get home from a supermarket run or going for a walk. Initially, I would wait until laundry day to wash them, but I noticed I would sometimes get maskne — mask acne — in the area around my lips and chin. Since I started making sure my face masks have been washed before I put them on, the acne situation has gotten whole a lot better.

I still throw the face masks into the washing machine every time I do laundry, too.

OTHER WAYS TO REPURPOSE THE FACE WASH

In my latest News Break article, I shared 3 other ways to re-purpose a cleanser.

THE STRUGGLE OF FINDING THE “PERFECT” CLEANSER

For your information, I have combination skin — with an oily t-zone and extremely dry and sensitive cheeks. And because of that, I sometimes would use 2 types of cleansers on different parts of my face. I therefore likely have a higher chance of owning more “failed” face washes than an average person because for a long time, I just couldn’t figure out what type of cleansers are more suitable for my skin.

In my previous post, when I talked about the skincare mistakes I used to make, I mentioned my routine of swapping products when the seasons change. So sometimes I do try certain products in different seasons, too, before putting them in the “need-to-repurpose” pile.
