How to get a kinda-casual, kinda-festive look this holiday season

Unlike past holiday seasons, this year’s “dress code” is going to be a lot less formal and fun for obvious reasons. Gatherings will not be taking place and most of us won’t be able to travel home to see family. In fact, I imagine more than the usual amount of people will be spending Christmas and New Year’s alone (but hey — just FYI, being “alone” does not mean being “lonely!”).

I will be spending Christmas in New York with my husband in our little alcove studio this year instead of being in California or Taiwan with our family. Since it’s just the two of us, we don’t plan to do anything fancy. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t be incorporating some festive elements into my looks from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day.

In case you’re thinking of doing something similar, read on to get some inspiration.

1. Go for a set of pajamas that is a little (or very) “extra”

Add some drama to your jammies! This PJ set with feather trims by Sleeper is so cute and comfortable, I’m obsessed! There are so many ways to style them, it’s really more like comfy clothes that you want to (and can) wear out.

Unfortunately, this polka dot set is no longer available but you can find similar sets in white here and in black, here.

2. Level up your makeup look with pearl stickers

You may be wearing loungewear, but no one and nothing is stopping you from leveling up your makeup look! These pearl stickers from Amazon are affordable and so easy to use. I’ve been experimenting a few looks and having so much fun with all of them — this look here is one of my favorites!

3. Opt for silver, rose gold or red nails

Since I won’t get to wear anything that is remotely bling-bling this year, I’m going to make sure my nails get all the bling it can get. After all, we see our own hands the most often anyway!

I get all my polishes from a non-toxic nail care brand called sundays studio and they have a fabulous collection of beautiful reds.

In my opinion, pretty headbands have the ability to save even the worst hair day(s) — just put your hair up into a ponytail and add a headband! It’s simply the easiest way to elevate any hairstyle.

This blush pink pearl headband is one of my personal favorites!

5. Put on stylish socks

Ditch the dad socks and upgrade your lounging outfit with comfortable but ultra-chic socks! This is a great way to add a pop of color or a happy print to any look — the perfect final touch!

This bundle of 3 pairs featuring butterfly prints is great for your and the sisters, besties or roommates!
