NYFW | Feb 2020: Shows I Attended & My Outfits

A roundup of the shows I attended and the outfits I wore from this season’s New York Fashion Week!

This time last month was one of the busiest times out of the entire year for me. In addition to attending shows, creating content of and for the shows, I was still completing the work I needed to do for my Once Upon clients — I didn’t take time off just for New York Fashion Week. So most days out that week, I was working till past midnight and waking up early to get ready again!

I’m not complaining though, although it was tiring, I’m starting to notice that I enjoy NYFW more and more — the fashion, the street style, but mostly the opportunity to spend the time with fellow content creators I don’t get to see very often. Another exciting part is bumping into influencers whom I follow and who are visiting New York for fashion week!

In this post, I’m taking you through the presentations and shows I attended this season and sharing some details of the outfits I wore throughout the week.

L’AGENCE | Fall 2020 Presentation

Known for its easy-to-wear wardrobe staples, L’AGENCE has been one of my favorite brands to buy high-rise pants. The brand’s take on blending an effortless California-vibe and chic French attitude was seen throughout the presentation which took place at the bohemian style Bowery Hotel.

I was obsessed with the orange brown hues and the cool “cowgirl” mood — everything looks so fashionable, yet so wearable. The warm tones really got me looking forward to fall again.

For this presentation, I wore a houndstooth blazer over a BA&SH brown cashmere sweater and a pair of brown L’AGENCE high-rise coated skinny jeans (similar pair here). I then completed the outfit with Stuart Weiztman tan suede pumps (similar here) and added a pop of color with an orange leather bag by Bottega Veneta.

Pamella Roland | Backstage & SS20 Runway Show

I had the privilege to go backstage this year with makeup brand Artistry US to witness how the hair and makeup team glams up all the models for the Pamella Roland runway show. It was really an exciting and fun experience to see the behind-the-scene work getting done in such a tight schedule.

Although the models were wearing gowns, the makeup was kept simple and minimal. The makeup artists focused on accentuating and glorifying everyone’s naturally beautiful features. The products used were from the latest Tokyo Edition.

The collection itself, needless to say, was amazing. This was my third season attending Pamella Roland’s show and every time, she puts on a fabulous show. I’m especially obsessed with how she mixes different textures in one dress — romantic feathers, light-reflecting crystals, and feminine ruffles etc. The choice of colors was also simply amazing; it was really hard to take my eyes off the pieces!

The highlight of that day, however, was when Pamella Roland herself complimented me on my outfit! She especially liked the tweed feather coat I was wearing from Heurueh, a brand which is in fact known for their fun and unique faux fur coats.

The cream skirt I was wearing is from Petite Studio — a brand designed for petites based out of New York City. Although I’m not a “traditional petite” (I’m 5’4”), I have a longer torso and shorter legs so it’s often difficult for me to find bottoms that fit me well. So when I found skirts and pants from Petite Studio to fit me well, I was really happy!

Last, but not least, my Jacquemus knee-high boots I got via Shopbop were a highlight of this look! The two-tone pattern and the heel design caught my eye when I first came across it. This pair is out of stock now but you can find the same style in another color here.

Rebecca Minkoff | SS20 Presentation

Founded by brother and sister duo Rebecca and Uri Minkoff, Rebecca Minkoff is a true ‘New Yorker’ brand that is now recognized globally. Attending the presentation last season was an interesting experience because the brand featured a lot of “real people” as models — including real moms and their babies, as well as women of all shapes and sizes. (Although I have to say, I did wonder whether the music was too loud for the babies?)

This season, all the modern-day women roles were present, too. The SS20 collection is inspired by the concept of ‘rebirth’ and showing women in other dimensions of their lives — from working, to having a family, to all the moments of celebrating life. The story-telling element of the presentation was in my opinion what made the presentation memorable. But of course with the backing of separates and dresses that can be worn multiple ways — almost like how women play numerous roles on a daily basis.

I really liked the color combinations, too. There were lots of sandy nudes, pinks, ocean blues, mellow yellows and burnt orange.

The outfit I wore that day was one of my personal favorites, featuring warm tones and soft yellow hues. My slightly oversized Harper jacket by Copenhagen-based clothing custommade is such a great piece. I love the yellow pastel color of the blazer and the subtle checkers; the felt fabric kept me pretty warm, too.

P.S. The jacket is now on sale here!

Underneath, I wore a vintage yellow dress that I found on The RealReal and paired the whole look with my knee-high boots from Paris Texas. I got so many compliments on my boots that day — they’re chic and really comfortable to walk in, too, thanks to the thick heel design!

Finally, to complete the outfit, I tied my brown BA&SH sweater over my neck to echo the warm tones from my boots, and added my new favorite crossbody bag in a nude color by Yuzefi.

Anna Sui | FW20 Runway Show

It was my first time being invited to Anna Sui’s show this season — thanks to the Anna Sui Cosmetic team whom I randomly met at a blogger’s market last year!

Anna Sui has long been known for her fun mix of patterns and the feminine but punk girl vibe. The FW20 collection continued that but she went a step further with the mixing of different textures like leather, tweed, lace etc. The designer also did a few throwback moments with vintage looks; I thought they added ‘flavor’ to her collection.

I wanted to “cook up” a fun outfit for the show, too, so I decided to be extra creative — I wore my wool and leather skirt from Rejina Pyo over a plaid coat!

To be honest, it worked out that way also because my skirt was too big and the layer of the coat actually made it fit me better. I still added a belt over it though to tie everything together and make sure everything stays put. This was by far the most fun I had with layering!

To complete the look, I grabbed my beloved handbag by Italian designer Benedetta Bruzziches.

Noon by Noor | SS20 Runway Show

On the last day for me during NYFW, I attended Noon by Noor’s SS20 show. I have a soft spot for this brand because the first fashion show I’ve ever attended was Noon by Noor’s 3 years ago!

I love the brand’s overall clean and minimal aesthetics — their subtle twists in elevating classic pieces really show how much attention they pay to details. Everything is so elegant, versatile and very wearable.

The outfit I wore to the show featured pieces by Jacquemus — the oversized trench coat, the two-tone navy and white boots, as well as the mini bracelet bag.

And because it was drizzling that morning, I decided to wear my bucket hat from Petite Studio. The bag I was carrying is also from Benedetta Bruzziches, except in white!

Bibhu Mohapatra | SS20 Runway Show

Last, but not least, my final show was by Indian designer Bibhu Mohapatra. His glamorous designs, using luxurious fabrics and vibrant colors, were so awe-inspiring to see in person. I actually found out later that he was an Economics major turned fashion designer and worked for Halston prior to starting his namesake label — I thought it was impressive he changed his career and became so successful.

I really loved the subtle flirty vibe that came with every gorgeous dress. The big skirts were memorizing and really hard to miss! There were a lot of really fun styling, too, with statement earrings and bold hair accessories.

For this show, I wore Once Upon client “the cape brand” Marta Scarampi’s blue Rachel Bansky Cape. I layered the cape over a blue velvet suit for a monochrome true blue outfit honoring the Pantone color of the year! Royal blue is in fact one of my favorite colors so it was easy for me to be happy with this outfit.
