How to Celebrate Your Gal Pal's Birthday in Style

Hi, everyone!

June 18 was my gal pal Lisa's @stylevoila birthday, and although we've only been friends for just over a year, Lisa is like a little sister to me, so I wanted to do something special for her!

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Dr Pepper®. The opinions and text are all mine.

While I was planning, I decided to share some ideas on ways to plan a birthday celebration in style without breaking the bank for your girlfriend(s). I hope you find some inspiration!

Read on to see my tips and tricks:

Do Something A Little Out of the "Daily"

Going out for a meal at a cute brunch place or grabbing drinks at a nice lounge are great ideas, but that can easily happen on any weekend. Instead, I decided to take advantage of the good weather in New York and do a picnic date in Central Park!

Picnics aren't exactly “out of the ordinary” but I always find them to be more fun! No reservations needed, no one rushing you to leave, and you get to lie down whenever you want to. Plus, it isn't very expensive to put together! So what can be better than that?

Other fun ideas you can consider doing in the city without spending a fortune include:

  • Booking a poolside lounge chair at some of the nicest hotels without having to stay overnight. The William Vale in Brooklyn, for instance, offers a day pass to their rooftop pool!
  • Taking a day trip to Coney Island.
  • Going for a sunset boat tour.

The Birthday Picnic: Prepare Snacks

You can't have a picnic without snacks!

I'm a fan of cheese and crackers so that was not going to be absent from my snack list. Lisa likes fruits so I prepared some nectarines for her! And instead of a birthday cake, I got cupcakes instead because they're so much easier to snack on, and way cuter, too!

The Birthday Picnic: Don't Forget the Perfect Soft Drink

Ever since I was a kid, my favorite soft drink has been Dr Pepper. So of course, I'm bringing a pack of Dr Pepper to our picnic party. We don't really need alcohol to have fun, anyway!

Dr Pepper actually recently launched a fun #PickYourPepper campaign, offering hundreds of new, limited-edition and custom-printed Dr Pepper 20-ounce bottles! This is the first time the brand is replacing the traditional trademark labeling with something that offers an experience of self-expression and individuality, so take advantage of it this summer!

[You can win this!] When you buy Dr Pepper this summer between June 15 and August 15, you can upload your receipt here (www.drpepper.com/walmart) to get the below prizes:

  • Spend $5 get 5 bottles = Dr Pepper Retro Specs
  • Spend $10 get 10 bottles = Dr Pepper Copper Lined Mug
  • Spend $20 get 20 bottles = Dr Pepper Bluetooth Speakers
  • Spend $30 get 30 bottles = Dr Pepper Pool Float

Surprise Her with a Thoughtful Birthday Gift!

The cherry on the top is a surprise gift! When you pay enough attention, you'll easily know what to get for your gal pal on her birthday. I love giving gifts and am always extra happy to learn that they love receiving the items I picked out for them! If you don't have plans to get a gift, bring her flowers! Because everyone likes a nice bouquet of roses!

Lisa's been talking about wanting a white box bag, so I found one and monogrammed it for her, too. Good gift, #AmIRight? (Hehe)

Coordinate Your Outfits (For the Gram)

And of course, you have to coordinate your outfits for those photos going up on Instagram! Lisa likes clean color tones and nothing too complicated, so we decided on a simple white theme for the hot summer day. Her white top was in a tunic style and she paired it over jeans. Mine had ruffle details that I can’t get enough of, and I paired it over my current favorite pink pants!
